History of Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation:

Boxing is an ancient sport of sports method in Olympic event. 205 countries of the world being enlisted as Member of International Boxing Association (IBA) have been organizing this sports. After Liberation in the year 1972 Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation started its activities as like as other Federation. In the starting of Boxing Federation Late distinguished Educationist Professor Yusuf Ali nominated as First President and Late Major M. T. Hossain nominated as General Secretary by the Government. Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation in the year 1973 organized first National senior and in the year 1974 organized First, National Junior Boxing Competition. For providing training to the probable Boxers in the year 1974 an Russian Boxing Coach name Md. Leonard was brought to Dhaka. Mr. Leonard Started First Boxing Coaching with Co-ordination of Local Boxing Coach Late Kazi Abdul Alim, Mr. M.A. Motin and the then General Secretary of the Federation and Boxing Coach Mr. A. K. Asadullah. With the direct Co-operation of Bangladesh Olympic Association from the year 1977 Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation has been conducting its functions being obtaining membership with International Boxing Association (IBA), Asian Boxing Federation (ASBC), Commonwealth Games Association. On the allotted plot measuring 42 Katha Land allotted by Jatio Krira Parishad (National Sports Council) Boxing Federation has constructed its own modern Gymnasium, 50 member seated Assembly room and fixed 1000 chair based (with Boxing Ring) oval stadium for conducting competition. With the view to upgrade national and international Boxing Competition there are IBA Electronic scoring machineries and installed all kinds of modern sound system. In the year 1978 famous Boxer of the world and greatest sports man of the twentieth century Mohammad Ali came to Dhaka and made this country honoured by inaugurating his own named "Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium". On last 30/10/2010 Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the Occasion of 11th S.A. Games inaugurated newly constructed Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium. Before participating national and other international competition selection work is completing in Divisional and District wise. National Boxing Junior, intermediate, female and in senior Boxing competition Bangladesh Army, BGB, Bangladesh Police, Bangladeshi Ansar, City Corporation, Education Board, District Sports Association, Bangladesh Railway BGMC, BKSP and recognized Boxing club of different districts have been regularly participating. Original maker of Bangladesh Junior and Intermediate Boxer is Bangladesh Krira Shikka Prathistan (BKSP) and as main organization to make senior Boxer role of Bangladesh Army is remarkable and foremost. After Liberation in Junior Group BKSP and Bangladesh Ansar and in senior group Bangladesh Army in most cases has becoming champion. In Bangladesh Junior Group about 400 boys and girls, in Intermediate Group 200 and in senior group 120-130 Boxer every year have been participating in the National Boxing Competition. Up to 2014 Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation has completed 21st National Junior, 13th National Intermediate, 26th National Senior and 8th Bangladesh Games Boxing competition. In the International sports great achievement of Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation that in the year 2010 got 2 gold, 2 Silver and 2 bronze medal. It is necessary to mention here that in the 11th South Asian Games on 30/11/2010 Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of 11th S. A. Games inaugurated the name plate of newly constructed modern Mohammad Ali Boxing Stadium. In Honour of her in the said occasion 2 female boxing exhibition is organized. By the order of the Honourable Prime Minister present junior, intermediate and senior group female Boxing in introduced, successful, Ex-Boxer of Bangladesh Habilder Mossaraf Hossain in the year 1985 got gold in South Asian Games and in the year 1986 got bronze medal in 10th Asian Games held in Japan. In the year 1999 Government honoured him National Sports prize. On the other hand in the year 1977 in 8th Asian Boxing Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia Abdul Halim got bronze medal which was the 1st International medal after Liberation. In the year 2004 Government awarded him National sports prize for his great role in International sports field. Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation from the year 2009 has been participating in higher training in different countries organized by IBA by the donation of International Boxing Association. Bangladesh National Boxing group has been participating in different International competition in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and other International Games. But with the view to obtain more honour in South Asian Games it is advancing.
